Petros, a person of recovery for over 7 years, actively used drugs for over 28 years and bought into a lifestyle contrary to how he was raised. He understands hopelessness and what it feels like to be controlled by something that was killing him from the inside out, wanting to stop, but could not find the ability to do so. On May 8, 2014, in a jail cell in Eastern Regional County Jail in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he cried out for help, surrendered his will and his life, and began his recovery journey.
Today, only through grace and mercy, has he been able to have years of recovery experience. He has been given the opportunity to live his life to the fullest and understands that being of service to his people - those that suffer from substance-use disorder and co-occurring mental health.
Petros is now a productive and healthy member of society whose passion is raising awareness for the need for treatment and aftercare. Petros has worked for a health organization for the past 6 years in providing addiction treatment and has also operated several recovery houses for over 3 years. He is also a mentor in showing how to live a life substance free. He focuses on his life’s purpose which is to remain humble and continue to learn how to be a trusted servant with integrity to his loving, caring GOD, and to leave a legacy of love because that is what HE continues to do for him daily.
“Recovery is not given, it’s a choice.” Petros Colla

Gratitude Foundation's House Manager at Harvest House Cumberland, Maryland and recovering addict/alcoholic. I have been in and out of rehab and halfway houses since 1999. It's been a long road to recovery. Getting to the Harvest House in 2022 was the best move I could have made. At first I felt completely defeated, but with little hope, the help of my sponsor, meetings, and the Gratitude Foundation I am now living the life I always wanted. So grateful to be involved with everyone on this team. So many people were involved in setting me on the path to recovery and I cannot thank them enough. Now I get to be someone who does that for the next guy.

Gratitude Foundation, Inc.'s mission is to provide a supportive, safe, and clean structured housing program for adults recovering from substance use disorder and other challenges. The Gratitude Foundation’s Feel Deal Heal Program aims to reduce existing gaps in services. This program will provide structured recovery housing while assisting individuals in becoming fully self-supporting and productive members of society. The program is based on a graduation system of learning with six subjects of concentration— mental health, physical health, financial health, educational health, social health, and lifestyle health.
This program will benefit those who are overcoming a substance use disorder, and in need of stable housing while providing a vigorous program individualized to improve each participant’s lifestyle. Your donation will allow for the necessary support services to adequately assist the target population. The program will be expanding the Gratitude Foundation’s existing operations.
